Glastonbury High School Scholarships

Caroline Ambrose: 

Caroline strives to make a lasting impression on everyone around her. She works hard to be a positive role model for the hundreds of kids she works with. She constantly is working for examples to lead her community’s youths. She’s a leader at Hartford County 4-H Camp managing a large cabin of pre-teen girls. For many of these first time campers she went out of her way to make sure they had a great experience despite their apprehension from being away from home. She is also a leader at Camp Sunrise working with special needs students. She loves spending individual time with participants as well as cheering them on. Caroline is undoubtedly an inspiration to the children as well as her peers through all her contributions.

Julie Kaplan:

Julie eagerly seeks out opportunities to inspire the people around her. She has been a Camp Counselor for the last two summers working with a large group of middle school children. She loves the challenge of encouraging them to make new friends and connect with each other even though they may be shy in the beginning. She has also worked closely with her Temple Youth Group, GRSLY, throughout high school. She was named the Social Action Vice President this year and was in charge of all of GRSLY’s community service. Julie plans to study Nursing at the University of Maine.

Audrey Aponovitch:

Audrey is a compassionate leader who goes above and beyond to make a difference. To honor the life of her friend, Jane Modlesky, Audrey starting a research project on teen driving. She diligently gathered as much information as she was able to prevent such a tragedy from repeating itself. Through her efforts her message became a town initiative called Be The Key. Audrey applied for BTK to become a GHS Club so they could enter the Celebrate My Drive contest.  She relentlessly encouraged her peers to take on this initiative earning a $100,000 grant for GHS. Audrey’s research project was published in the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and was presented at the Injury Free Coalition for Kids Conference. Truly an inspiration. Audrey plans to attend UCONN School of Nursing in the fall.

Cameron Britnell: 

Cameron is always looking for chances to volunteer in his community. For the last four years he’s volunteered for the Special Olympics Basketball Team in Glastonbury. Cam shared his passion for the game with the athletes on the team to encourage them to become better players. Through his leadership they went the extra mile to improve their efforts and performance. Cam also has always been involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. After being diagnosed at a young age with CF Cam has been actively involved in foundation. He has shared his personal battle with CF in hopes of raising awareness and finding a cure. Cameron will be attending the University of Hartford to study Business Management.

Alexis Segal: 

Alexis has been a natural leader ever since a young age. Through babysitting, camp counseling, and several planning committees she has served as a leader to those around her. She also leads by example with her exemplary efforts participating in the varsity cross country team for 4 years. Through her hard work she inspires and motivates her teammates for the betterment of themselves and the team. She also has been involved with the Kenneth Joyce Foundation. She was the lead event chair the the KJ Life blood drive and she helped organize the event.

Sara DiCenso:

Sara is a leader in her community on and off the field. She is a 4 time sports captain during her high school athletics. She was inspired by the leadership qualities she noticed in upperclassmen and quickly learned these traits as she grew older. She sets an example through her own determination while also making herself available if her teammates and peers need help or motivation. Off the field Sara is involved in service clubs at GHS. Her role on the Student Council is to help successfully ru the many events they put on throughout the year including the advertising of those events. She also works as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee to promote sportsmanship, teamwork and other qualities that will improve student athletes in all areas of their life.  Sara will be attending Middlebury College in Fall.

 

 

RHAM High School Scholarships

Adam Busa:

Adam is the epitome of leading by example. A firm believer of actions speak louder than words Adam has always lead by example by being a friend and a helpful person. After being inspired by individuals who have led through kindness Adam has tried to be that kind of person himself. In sports he tries to be a “team player” and encourage hose around him to do their best. In classes he listens to his peers and tries to be supportive and give them confidence to achieve all that they are capable of. Adam will be attending UCONN in the fall to study Actuarial Science with a minor in Music.

Ashleigh Jepson: 

Ashleigh has always served as a leader for her team. After making her varsity soccer team her freshman year her hard work earned her a captain position. However, her defining moment was not a big game she had, it was a game she was unable to participate in. Due to injury Ashleigh wasn’t going to be given the opportunity to lead by example she desperately wanted to inspire the team. Although they were anxious she able to inspire them on the sidelines before and during the game leading them to a commanding 5-0 shutout on the road. Ashleigh will be attending the University of Delaware in the fall majoring in Health Sciences.
