2014 Scholarships

Congratulations to all of the Kenneth Joyce Foundation 2014 Scholarship recipients!

Glastonbury High School Scholarships

Courtney Burnham plans to attend the University of Delaware where she is entering into the 6 year PhD in Physical Therapy Program.  Courtney also plans to continue her career in crew while in college as a member of the University of Delaware crew team.  She has been a member of the GHS crew team all four years of high school.  As captain of the team this year they qualified for the National Scholastic Rowing Championships. Courtney was the chair for “Pulling for Pink” Organization which raises money for the American Cancer Association.

Ben Colasante plans to attend Penn State University and study Civil Engineering.  Ben has been a contributor to the GHS community as a member of the all-academic Varsity Football team where he mentored younger players.  Ben is on the Leadership team at St. Dunstan’s Church where he has led over 100 high school students in various activities.  He has been a head coach for the Glastonbury Basketball Association for the past 3 years, is Vice President of the YMCA/KJ LIFE Leadership Club and is a liaison for the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Club at GHS.  

Phil DiSalvo plans to attend University of Connecticut where he has been accepted in the Honors Program.  Phil will study Chemistry.  He has been GHS Class of 2014 President for the past 3 years, is a member of the Class Council and founded the Badminton Club that has grown to be the 2nd largest club at the school.  Phil was a member of the GHS Hockey team where he was selected Captain; he was also a varsity member of the GHS Volleyball team.  Phil was involved in the Jane Modlesky Powder-puff football game this past fall which he states was the most fulfilling thing he has done. 

Jennifer Hogan plans to major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Brown University.  Jennifer has been GHS Class of 2014 Vice President since her freshman year; she has been a member of the class council and the student council.   She was selected as alto section leader for the GHS Concert Chorus.  Jennifer is one of the captains for the GHS Varsity Basketball team where she received the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Scholar-Athlete award.

Justin Kretzmer will be wearing blue and gold for the Mariners at Maine Maritime Academy where he will be playing football.  Justin was captain of the GHS varsity football team where he was a mentor and leader to his teammates.  He has been active in our community as a liaison for Big Brother/ Big Sister, a coach for Glastonbury Basketball Association, as well as assisting with coaching for the youth football and lacrosse programs.  Justin has been involved with The Kenneth Joyce foundation where he has Co-Chaired 3 successful blood drives as well as Chair of the “ Moe’s” fundraiser.

Kyran McKinney-Crudden plans to attend Dartmouth College and study Mechanical Engineering as well as play football.  Kyran participated in both Varsity Football and Track, he was a captain of the football team where he earned All Academic and All Conference awards.  Being captain of the football team allowed him to speak to the Smith Middle School students about the importance of prioritizing academics while playing sports.  Kyran was selected to be the student representative on the new GHS Drug and Alcohol Committee, from which there will be greater emphasis on alcohol and drug education at the middle school and freshman level.  

Will Peters will attend Penn State University where he will study engineering this fall.  Will was a member of the Varsity Football team; according to Will the bonds created on the team capture the essence of leadership, inspiration and an unparalleled level of friendship.  Will is a member of the South Congregation Church and Youth Mission Group; he has participated in the Habitat for Humanity, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Club at GHS.  Will has served on the board for the YMCA/ Kenneth Joyce Foundation Leadership Club where he has been instrumental in many of their activities.

Ashley Sanzaro will be attending Southern Connecticut State University where she will play field hockey.  Ashley was a member of the varsity field hockey team where she earned all conference and all state recognition.  She is Assistant Student Director at Glastonbury YMCA, has been involved with Unified Theater where she is the student leader and coordinator.  Ashley is a student leader of the American Sign Language Club which she helped create. 

RHAM High School Scholarships

Brandon Fromme plans to attend Eastern Connecticut State University and study Business.  Brandon has been a member of the RHAM Varsity Soccer team where he earned All-Conference, All-State and Connecticut Senior Bowl Participant as well as Captain for his senior year.  Brandon has leadership roles as Student Ambassador, is a peer tutor, volunteers for Unified Sports Camps as well as RHAM Sports Boosters.  Brandon helped organize the First Annual Garret Campen Recreational Basketball tournament this spring.

Rachelle Levasseur will be studying Social Work at University of Connecticut this fall.  Rachelle has been a cheerleader since she was 5 years old and this past year is Captain of the RHAM Varsity squad.  She shares her talent and her passion with 6 and 7 year olds as an assistant coach for the youth league.  Rachelle is a teen leader and mentor for the Confirmation Class Retreat Team at Church of the Holy Family.  She was a Team Coordinator for the first Paige Houston Memorial Fund in September 2013 to set up a scholarship fund in memory of her dear friend.
